Liverpool and Bayern Munich played a goalless draw in the first-leg of their last-16 Champions League tie at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Liverpool started on the front foot, but Bayern Munich later found their’s and settled into the match later on. The Reds should have taken the lead on 12 minutes, but Mohammed Salah was unable to get a firm touch on Jordan Henderson’s pass.
Bayern followed with an attack of their own, former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry saw his shot deflect off Joel Matip and then saved by Alisson in goal.
Kingsley Coman had a second chance for the Bundesliga champions but he could only direct his shot to the side netting from a tight angle.
Sadio Mane almost scored a spectacular volley, the Senegalese acrobatic effort went wide off the mark after Naby Keita’s shot deflected towards him.
Both teams came out after the interval to continue from where they stopped, firing on all cylinders looking to take the lead. Lewandowski should have done just that for Bayern but as soon as Coman passed to him in the box Fabinho marshaled him off the ball, the Brazilian so impressive in an unfamiliar centre-back position.
The game looked destined to end in a stalemate with both teams yet to find the net as the game began to fizzle out, Liverpool had the final set of chances of the match, Matip could only shoot off target while Manuel Neuer did well to save a header from Mane.
