Bale Leads Madrid Past Leganes

The Real Madrid striker helped a second string Madrid side to victory against Leganes at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

In a bid to give first team players a rest as they prepare for their midweek tie against Bayern Munich, Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane listed the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Marcelo on the bench while club captain Sergio Ramos and star striker Cristiano Ronaldo missed out completely.

Los Blancos took an early lead when the Welsh striker scored with an acrobatic effort after Krim Benzema’s earlier effort was saved.

On the stroke of halftime, youngster Borja Mayoral made it two goals to the good for Madrid. The striker scored the goal with basically his first touch of the match.

Deep into the second half, the visitors pulled a goal back as Ruben Perez knocked in a cross from Amrabat to give them a chance of a comeback.

That comeback was not to be as the game came to an end without anymore goals scored. Leganes’ Gabriel got himself sent off at the final whistle for protesting against the referee’s decision to end the match when his side where on the attack.

Next up for Los Blancos is the UCL second leg semi-final match against Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu scheduled for Tuesday. Madrid won the first leg 2 – 1 in Munich last week.
